Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), which was based in Washington DC. A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist and host of the TV program Meet the Press. She served on an audience for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, such as budget reform, tax reform and an investigation into the Iran Contra affair. She travelled extensively along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
